Before #blackhistorymonth comes to an end, LUCK would like to recognize a pioneer in the equestrian world, Ohio resident Cheryl White. A Cleveland native, in June 1971 Cheryl became the first black female horse racing jockey. She began her career with her father (Raymond White) as trainer, at age 17 at Thistledown Racino in North Randall, Ohio. Later that year, she would earn her first win of over 700 races.
